ONLINE PURCHASES AND RETURNS, DELIVERY CHARGES, & WARRANTIES

Online Purchases

We shall use reasonable endeavours to ensure that the description and specification of our goods are correct at the time of publication. However, specifications and descriptions of goods on this website are not intended to be binding and are intended only to give a general description of the goods. While the colour reproduction of the goods is a close representation (where possible we use pictures provided by the manufacturer or supplier), we cannot accept any responsibility for any variation in colour caused by the browser software or computer system used by you. Pictures of second-hand or ex-demo items are for illustration only and (unless specifically stated) not of the specific item being offered for sale (pictures of the item can be sent on request).

All of the prices shown on our website are in British Pounds Sterling (inclusive of VAT).

Any multibuy offers will be for online purchases only, and will have the offer applied to the cheapest products of all those eligible in the order. For example in a "buy 4 get cheapest one free" offer, if eight eligible products of different prices are purchased, the two cheapest eligible products in the order will be free.

When confirmation of your order is received, this is to indicate that we have received your order. It does not indicate that a contract exists between us, eg if a mistake has been made in the online pricing of goods, or we are no longer able to supply a particular product, or the date for which a special offer is valid has passed. In the case of a change of price, we will always contact you first to ensure that the correct price is acceptable.

Our gift vouchers are subject to their own policy for purchase and use.

We will not be liable or responsible for any failure to perform, or delay in performance of, any of our obligations under the contract that is caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

Delivery

We aim to send items out for delivery daily (except for Sundays, Bank Holidays, and the period between Christmas and New Year). We will contact you if there is a delay expected.

Please be aware that delivery times are subject to unforseen or unpredictable impact from staff shortages and other staffing/logistical issues at Royal Mail and other courier companies. We shall be under no liability for any delay or failure to deliver the goods or otherwise perform any obligation as specified in these terms and conditions if the same is wholly or partly caused whether directly or indirectly by circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Time of delivery shall not be of the essence of the contract.

Please note some machines which are despatched from the manufacturer following an order are subject to delays owing to various global circumstances beyond our control. We are happy to pass on what information we have; please contact us if you have any questions about a specific machine

We are a small team, and aim to provide a quick and efficient service. The extra work involved in manually adding tracking numbers to every dispatch notificaction email would add considerably to the time taken to send all orders, so this information is not routinely added. However if you are concerned about the whereabouts of your order after dispatch, please email us and we will of course find out more information for you.

Postage and packing charges apply to all items purchased via our website.

Postage and packing charges within the UK mainland are shown in relation to the cost of the ordered items.

Below are our postage rates – based on the cost of the order.

  • £5 - £9.99 £2.50
  • £10 - £24.99 £3.50
  • £25 - £44.99 £4.00
  • £45 and over - free

If you give us an incorrect delivery address and a parcel is returned to us or undelivered because of that incorrect address we reserve the right to charge additional postage to cover the re-sending of your parcel to the correct address.

Exeter Sewing Machine Company Ltd reserves the right to notify you if postage to your chosen destination is significantly higher than the postage rate indicated due to the destination or the bulk/weight value of the item being shipped. If this is the case we will email you with information about the amended rate and will only proceed with the order when you confirm that the amended amount is acceptable.

Currently we are not able to send items beyond the UK Mainland or Overseas. This includes not being able to send items to the Channel Islands, or to Europe.

Returns and refunds

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations (2013), you have the right to decide to cancel your online order within 14 days of receipt of the item (or the last item of a split order), and receive a refund of the item and delivery costs (unless you chose to pay for a delivery method more expensive than our standard delivery method)

If you wish to cancel your online order please contact us within 14 days of receiving the item (you then have another 14 days within which to return the item).

Please note that under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, the cost of returning unwanted goods purchased online is born by the customer.

Any unwanted items purchased online and returned under the Regulations must be returned, in original packaging and condition, as new, undamaged, unused and in a resalable condition. Any free gifts or promotional items supplied must also be returned. You should not handle/unwrap items beyond what is strictly necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and function (as you would if viewing them in store). We may reduce the amount of money refunded for goods returned which show evidence of use beyond the handling necessary to see whether the goods were as expected, which has decreased the item's value.

The right to cancel within 14 days does not apply to items made to your specifications, or personalised items, or software (for example embroidery software) where the wrapping seal has been broken. It does not apply to items purchased in store.

Please contact us prior to returning a sewing machine for any reason - we can advise on troubleshooting which may give a remedy for a perceived fault, or if necessary we can advise on the best packaging and postage methods for return.

If your item is faulty, not as described, or unfit for purpose, please contact us before returning it. Do not attempt any repairs or alterations yourself. For an item to be classified as faulty the product must be in less than perfect condition, dysfunctional or of un-merchantable quality at the time of delivery. A fault may also be classified as a defect which manifests itself within a reasonable period of time after delivery which can be attributed unanimously to a manufacturing defect or poor quality workmanship and not due to maltreatment by the customer. The cost of returning these items only is borne by us (we will require a receipt of postage).

We recommend that you obtain proof of postage when returning any goods, as we cannot accept responsibility for goods lost in transit.

We will process refunds within 14 days of receiving the item (or 14 days of receiving proof of receiving evidence of return, if earlier). Refunds will be made using the same means of payment as were used in the initial transaction. No fees will be incurred.

Our policy is only to accept return of unwanted items purchased online within the first 14 days (under the Consumer Contracts Regulations), and otherwise only to accept returns of items (whether purchased in store or online) which are faulty, not as described, or unfit for purpose as required by law. If we waive this policy on occasion to allow returns outside these parameters, this shall not consitute an undertaking to waive this policy in the future.
