Bernina’s L890 combination overlocker/coverstitch machine gives you the ultimate versatility, sewing smoothly and precisely at up to 1350 stitches per minute. Not only can you sew quickly, but you can also sew stitch-by-stitch, making the flawless production of precise lines and curves a simple process. The L 890 sews using 2, 3, 4 or 5 threads, providing the perfect seam for every design. From the stretchiest knits to the most loosely woven fabrics this machine has the perfect stitch for particularly highly elastic and knitted materials, and threads. You can combine both overlock, cover- and chainstitches for extra durable seams using 4- or 5-thread combo stitches.
The one-step Air Threader makes threading the looper threads unbelievably easy. Color-coded One-path threading enables you to easily switch between Overlock, Coverstitch or Combo stitches in no time at all. Every machine set-up and operation is supported with animations accessible on the touch screen.
The centrally located colour touch screen gives you access to sewing speed, stitch selection, individual stitch settings and properties, as well as stitch memory (you can save up to 100 stitches). Total Stitch Control means you can make changes to stitch length, differential feed, thread tension, cutting width and more while sewing. Creative Sewing Consultant and Stitch Optimizer help you to get the best results, and helpful animations let you make the most of this machine’s capabilities. Guided Mode offers step-by –step instructions for the less experienced user, while advanced users can apply all settings quickly and directly in Expert Mode. Both modes automatically set the thread tension, stitch length and differential feed along with stitch selection. A simple turn of the mtc (Micro Thread Control) lets you precisely modify the amount of overedge thread.
The L890 offers many convenient features to make sewing easier. By pressing the foot control with your heel, you can easily raise or lower the needle by a half stitch. The BERNINA Free Hand System (FHS) lets you raise and lower the presser foot with your knee, leaving both your hands free to guide the fabric – a significant advantage when sewing corners, for example. . You can also swing the presser foot out for convenient access to the needles.
The Bernina L890 has an extremely generous workspace, with more room to the right of the needle and more work space height than any other Bernina combination overlock machine. Sew closed items with ease by simply sliding sleeves or cuffs over the convenient freearm. In addition, the large slide-on extension table expands the work surface area and simplifies the sewing of larger projects. The bright LED sewing light provides improved visibility when sewing, during both day and at night
The infinitely adjustable differential feed provides smooth handling of knitwear and particularly prevents the unwanted ruffling of fine materials. You can also use the differential feed to create ruffles and gathers

One-step Bernina Air Threading
The One-step BERNINA Air Threader makes threading the looper threads unbelievably easy. No more dreading threading! One of the biggest advantages when threading both looper threads is both hands remain free. The threads are magically moved through the machine via one simple step on the foot control. Remarkably quick and easy! The L850 automatically sets the loopers in the
correct position for the air threader – no turning the handwheel or searching for the right position. Simply press the foot control and you’re off!
Micro Thread Control (mtc)
This fine-tuning allows the amount of looping thread wrapped over the fabric edge to be fine-tuned, avoiding undesirable loose loops and creating a beautifully wrapped fabric edge. Thanks to the mtc fine-tuning, the thread tension only has to be adjusted once, because if there is a subsequent change in the cutting width or thickness of the material, it is sufficient to simply adjust the mtc fine-tuning. This saves you a lot of time because the fine adjustment of the thread usually requires lots of test seams and patience. With the easy-to-use mtc micro thread control, these multiple adjustments are not necessary because the mtc fine-tuning system includes the knife and stitch tongue
Differential Feed
The differential feed is probably one of the best features of an overlocker. Two feed dogs, which are independent of each other and arranged one behind the other, feed the fabric and "push" or "pull" it under the presser foot. This either stretches or holds back the fabric during feeding, depending on the setting, keeping the seam or hem nice and flat without unwanted puckers. The differential feed can also be used t create ruffles/gathers, or stretch effects.
